Nail's Theme Song

Alex (who plays Nails) called me the other day with a tiny revelation: he had found a potential song that fit his dark, dark character. I found the song on the good ole YouTube and thought it might prove useful to post it here.

Pantera - Walk

Gawd, this song brings back memories. Between this and Metallica's "Master of Puppets" you'd be hard-pressed to find a heavier song. Good choice, Alex. This song breathes Nails.

Session 9. Wading through Death.

Note to readers: The happenings within the session took place over a year before this writing. Unfortunately, due to the massive gap in time, many sections of this text have been severely summarized. I created this blog back in the day in hopes that our session summaries would provide a concrete picture of the past events, as an aid to both the storyteller and the other players. (GM note to self: I will try, in the future, to post the summaries in a more timely fashion.)

The Healing Scars enter Lancaster castle and are greeted by an opposition of Simmons’s followers. The Destroyer Wolf was correct in his previous rant; Simmons has incorporated folks from all walks of life, as this party of defenders encompasses vampires, werewolves, and even humans. One member of the party clearly stands out, a small girl guarded by some rather “oaf-y” looking Kindred gentleman. After a long skirmish the Scars dispatch the majority of the opposition, although one of the attackers manages to escape by blowing a hole in the ceiling via explosives. The vampire and the child also seem to have vanished in the heat of the battle.

Now by “vanished,” what really happened was the damned soul used his powers of obfuscate, slipping into the shadows and out of sight with the young child. Since the Healing Scars could not obtain a fix on the fleeing party by sight, they instead alt for using their other senses (as Uratha, their sense of smell is nearly always superior to the eyes) to locate the escapers. While concentrating Eric/Sam Sky, aided by the other packmates, surmises the general direction in which they fled. They begin to pursue.

After some following (and a few bad rolls of the dice) the vamp discovers the Scars are trailing him. He appears before the Uratha, catching the pack off guard, and gets a few attacks in before they can react. While this Kindred is rather strong, he is no match against an entire pack. All the while it’s important to note that Nails has not forgotten the words that the Destroyer Wolf spoke prior to entering the castle. His newfound rage towards these followers of Simmons, coupled with the crazed spirit festering inside of his stop sign fetish drives Nails over the edge. The Healing Scars Alpha snaps, making a mad dash at both the vampire and child with only one thought on his mind: slaughter.

The vampire (whose name eludes me) freaks out regarding this and, in a bit of haste and stupidity, chucks one of his explosives into the air and makes a run for it. In a fairly impressive feat, Deacon Sharpe uses quick draw and shoots the grenade in mid-air. This action most definitely saves the girl and quite possibly the entire pack. But it does not save our vampire, who has met up with Nails and is being ripped into several piles/mounds of blood, sinew, and flesh. Quite interpretively, the other members of the pack realize that their leader’s killing spree will not stop with this one target. They then take the appropriate steps to protect the girl.

Once Nail’s rage and fury have subsided (an act I believe that was fronted by Marcus Blair) the Scars take care of the child, who happens to go by the name Wendy. Wendy is a lab rat of sorts for Pentex; one of the many experiments that the corporation, with the cooperation of David Simmons, have been conducting. The exact specifics of her case elude her, so Wendy (who’s remarkable bright considering her age) tells the group what she does know about her condition. Somehow the collective consciences of several deceased individuals have been placed inside her mind in a bizarre mix of technology and ritual possession. Other children have been experimented on, and the results have been mixed. The entry of a new personality can easily drive a subject mad. Sometimes the body rejects the process entirely, often resulting in death. Fortunately, Wendy has seen Simmons in the Lancaster Castle and agrees to help the group find him.

The girl takes them through various underground tunnels leading to a network of catacombs. Eventually, the Scars come to a dead end as they reach river of green sludge. There is no way around this obstacle and the pack quickly decides to trudge through the crap to get to the other side. After that disgusting ordeal is completed, the pack cautiously proceeds along a series of corridors. Wendy finally leads the Scars to their target destination: a series of winding stairs that lead to their enemy. But Simmons is not in the physical world, and the band of werewolves knows this all too well. Eric uses his affinity with the spiritual realm to spot a locus in the general vicinity. But Simmons was more paranoid, and placed a trap to thwart intruders (not to mention the wall of fire they encountered in the previous session). A massive Azlu, one of the spider hosts, lies in wait as a watchdog on the other side of the gateway to the hissil. Before crossing to the other side, the Sky brothers devise a plan. They take one set of the explosives (obtained from the previous conflict) and throw it across the gauntlet. The detonation takes care of the spider host quite easily, allowing the rest of the pack access to the other side. The Healing Scars ascend the spiraling staircase, ready to fight.

The steps do indeed take them to Simmons. The renegade werewolf is inside the castle’s throne room, which he appears to have made his domain for the last few months. David bows and greats the pack. Nails wastes no time in confronting his adversary. He wields the stop sign fetish and lands a striking blow across David’s neck, severing the head. But the fallen head continues to speak… confessing several truths before fading away with the rest of his false body.

• Lancaster Castle is the UK base of operations where Simmons has been testing and housing the parvovirus compound with his followers.
• Pentex has been funding his research and plans to start mass-scale production of the compound at their location in Alaska.
• The testing of the virus on wolves in Colorado was only the beginning. The virus has been cultured to its intended form. The parvovirus can now infect Uratha and the Pure, all werewolves. The disease will slowly eat away their essence, killing them.
• And the big one: that sludge that they crawled through was contaminated… and so now are the Scars.

Next session: the race for the cure!

We're REALLY Back!

OK folks, we are really (I swear) starting up our Healing Scars group again! I'm also happy to report that everyone from the group is on board and ready to play (Adam, did you loose you character sheet again? /joking).

What the outsiders to our game didn't know is that we actually played Sessions 9 and 10 last year. I never managed to pen the events and I'm going to do so over the next few days. Due to the extreme length of time between writing and playing, I'm quite sure that some things will be left out. So I'd really appreciate it if you guys (the Scars) look these session summaries over and let me know what I've undoubtedly missed.

I'm brainstorming Session 11 as we speak and plan on writing it this weekend. Originally, I had planned on jumping forward one year and playing events after the battle with David Simmons. But an idea I've been kicking around has changed my mind; you guys will be continuing the story.

Did I mention that I'm excited? Hell yeah!
