We need to DUKE IT OUT

Before we start our first session, I think it would benefit it us all to try out the new combat system. Some time this week would be best. Comment this post and let me know, guys. Here's your homework: try to learn the combat summary rules before we test the system.

Combat Summary:

Stage One: Initiative

  • Everyone rolls Initiative: The result of a die roll + Dexterity + Composure. The character with the highest Initiative performs her action first. Or you may yield your character's action until later in the Initiative queue or intro the next turn.

Sage Two: Attack

  • Unarmed close combat: Strength + Brawl, minus target's Defense and armor
  • Armed close combat: Strength + Weaponry, minus target's Defense and armor
  • Ranged combat (guns and bows): Dexterity + Firearms, minus target's armor
  • Ranged combat (thrown weapons): Dexterity + Athletics, minus target's Defense and armor

Add bonus dice based on weapons used or effect performed, and then subtract penalties for circumstance conditions. Roll your remaining pool. Each success equates to a Health point of damage inflicted, the type of which is determined by the nature of the attack (bashing, lethal, aggravated).

Possible Modifiers

  • Aiming: +1 per turn to a max of +3
  • All-Out Attack: +2 with Brawl or Weaponry attack; lose Defense
  • Armor Piercing: Ignores amount of target's armor equal to item's own rating
  • Autofire Long Burst: 20 bullets fired (Multiple targets) with a +3 attack roll. -1 per roll for each target, if there is more than one target.
  • Autofire Medium Burst: 10 bullets fired (1-3 targets) with a +2 attack roll. -1 per roll for each target, if there is more than one target.
  • Autofire Short Burst: 3 bullets fired (single target) with a +1 attack roll.
  • Dodge: Doubles target's Defense; requires one turn
  • Drawing a Weapon: Requires one turn (without Quickdraw Merit), may negate Defense
  • Offhand attack: -2 penalty
  • Range (guns): -2 at medium range, -4 long range
  • Specified target: torso -1, leg or arm -2, head -3, hand -4, eye -5
  • Using willpower: Add +3 to roll or +2 to a Resistance trait (Stamina, Resolve, Composure, or Defense) in one instance

Other neato combat thingies

-Other neato combat thingies-

All-Out Attack- or as I have dubbed it- The Balls Out

A character may choose to forego all self-preservation during a round of combat.

System: You gain two dice for your character's attack, but you lose your Defense. Works with close combat, armed or unarmed. If your Defense has already been applied, this attack cannot be used.

Perception = Wits + Composure

Perception = Wits + Composure (or a relevant skill in place of Composure)

So as far as the debate goes, both Adam and I were right. It does come from an attribute, but can be replaced if a skill applies.

Dodge = Lowest of char's Wits or Dex is used to determine his defense, which is subtracted from incoming Brawl, Weaponry/thrown. You can declare a dodge at any time in the turn, even before you place in the roster- assuming you have not acted yet. As with defense, if multiple attacks are directed against your character, your Dodge total is reduced by one for each attack after the first.

So! You choose to dodge, or you choose to fight. You can abandon at any point assuming you've not already acted. If you've been attacked several times and decide to abort to a dodge, you simply subtract your increased defense by one for every time you've been attacked.

I.E.-My defense is 4. I am attacked twice and decide to dodge. Normally, my defense would be increased to 8, but since I've already been attacked twice, I subtract two from my total. I'm at a 6 for the remainder, or until I am attacked again.

I like it.

Don't forget the WoD Core Rulebook

I can't stress this enough. WW has placed only the material exclusive to Werewolves in the Forsaken book.

Things like skill specialties, basic combat, and merits are in only the new WoD core rulebook. Any type of familiarity with the new system will only make things easier when we start playing.

I'm looking forward to reading those backgrounds. In the meantime I'm researching Hyde Park to keep our setting as true to the location as possible.

Damn I'm excited about this shit.

The bee always means New York.

The bee always means New York.

As the best GM once told me, "Are you sure you'd go back to sleep after that dream? Are you sure you wouldn't leave the caern? Don't you want to leave the caern, and say goodbye to your mom? You want to do that, right?"

And he was right. I don't know what I was thinking.

P.S. - Story is in progress. Should be posted shortly.

RPG Blog Created

Greetings all.

Once the group is established, I plan on posting the Pack's sessions in some form (shorthand, outline).

I might even use the page to add side stories to the chronicle. With some group feedback using the comments system, this little page could turn out quite useful.
